This is Not a Happy EndingI use to be a princess
a soft thing
weaving flowers through my hair
I walked with bare feet
through forests
worshipping
the light
that cascaded down through
canopies
of leaves
always waiting for my prince to come.
I was
burning with brightness
glimmering
in the darkness.
At first
it was moths
I attracted
the flutter of soft wings
and blind eyes beating
against skin.
When it was bees that came
drawn to suck at honey
I built myself a tower
of walls to protect me
while I waited for him to come
keeping the light hidden within
I waited for a prince to climb my tower
but instead

veiling my eyes

I said it, as I watched the steam roll off the surface of a green mug in a small cafe
while the rain poured on the streets outside casting the world in indigo, as the sun died into the sea.
And just like him, my Uncle, who lives now only in a house composed of blue glass on the edges of my sleeping mind, you only seem to exist here in this place carved out from the recesses of my thoughts, rolling in as clouds often do, comprised perhaps of only salt air and thick mist that comes in with the storm.

Your Absence DestroysIt was easy once. So easy. Now in the reflection of everything, it becomes a stone. A thousand apologies I can never whisper, and I have become tired, compressed, heart heavy with the soak of rain. The memory of you has kept me floating. Waves and snowfall at twilight, the incomprehensible feeling that life is often for not. What meaning can I find without you here? What meaning am I to find in dividedness? Each year that passes is another stone in my pocket, and I am sinking, fading, becoming nothing but a light dancing across the water, here in the confines of my own mind.

Playing with a new style, images are for a book I'm working on. Premise is about ghosts/haunting/loss. I'm attempting to capture this feeling in some of the pieces, a sense of emptiness, abandonment, loneliness.
